Those of us who struggle with depression may notice that when our depression gets bad, our posture gets bad right along with it. Our shoulders slump, our spine curves, our heads drop. As one astute observer said on the Facebook Jon Kabat-Zinn fan page, “It’s as though our spines are weighed down by the shame we’re feeling.”

Jon Kabat-Zinn offers a simple, mindful solution:

TRY: Sitting with dignity for thirty seconds. Note how you feel. Try standing with dignity. Where are your shoulders? How is your spine, your head? What would it mean to walk with dignity?
